Andrew Small, a partner at Molod, Spitz & DeSantis, P.C. is an Aikido instructor at the Aikido School of New Jersey. He holds a 4th degree black belt.

Combining his skills, Mr. Small consulted with the United State Aikido Federation, to assist dojos (schools) in handling their re-opening following the months-long shut down due to COVID-19. Attached via link are the two Aikido Student release forms created for the Federation, specifically addressing COVID-19. Both forms must be signed to protect the schools from liability.

Mr. Small has also reviewed the applicable liability policy, most of which contains standard martial arts and sports conditions, specifically excluding coverage for contracting an “illness or disease” at the dojo.

The two Aikido Student Release forms are applicable to any martial arts, and also apply to gyms that hold classes such as yoga, Pilates, spin and boxing.

Mr. Small is available to consult with clients for guidance in minimizing Covid-related liability in this setting.
